Runner’s High

We’ve been blessed with some abnormally warm weather the past few days. Since February does not usually supply such great days, I’ve been hankering to take advantage of the sun. After my office hours and meeting (3 of my 9 hours a week away from Daniel) I gave Thomas a phone call as I walked to my car. He was commenting on how beautiful the day was proving to be and he kept telling me how I should go running. I was a bit irritated because I would have Daniel, not exactly the best running buddy. Thomas said I should put him in the stroller and go running. I quickly responded with a “We don’t have a running stroller. I can’t use the other stroller to run with.” Thomas, my wonderful, counselor husband, still attempts to fix things. He gladly tells me that I can go running once he gets home from work. Ever the pessimist, I tell him that it will be dark by that time and all the sunshine will be wasted.

Anyway, I go home and decide that it would not be too bad to go walking, instead of running. So, I get the baby hooked into the stroller and we go for a brisk 20 minute walk. It was more of a workout than I expected; 13 lbs or so of baby, plus a stroller makes for good load to push. A few hours after our walk, a friend from up the street, Liz, calls and asks if we want to go for a walk with her and her baby, hence, we are off for our 2nd walk of the day. I go into her house to chat for a bit.

While at Liz’s house, my phone rings; it is Thomas. He asks me where I am…..because he is at home…..at 3:30!!! He told me he came home early so that he could watch Daniel while I went for a run!!!

With my baby at home with my husband, I took off! I have not been a competitive runner for a few years, but I am a stress relief/pleasure runner; it always refreshes my spirit. Babies make talking off for a run difficult, but great husbands make it possible. (thanks babe! it was one of the best runs ever!)
